Iris Ferwerda Music Presents:

A Vocal Masterclass

10 th  of April 6:30 – 8:00pm

Box Hill Arts Centre

The concept of a ‘master class’ can be traced directly back to the celebrated pianist and composer Franz Liszt, who is credited for developing the format in the late 1900s. Masterclasses have gone on to become a staple of music education in the ensuing decades. Selected students will be asked to perform a solo item, this then will be workshopped with the guest accomplished singer. A masterclass is a dynamic approach to learning that provides performance experience and the chance to learn from other students.

Iris Ferwerda music is proud to present its first ‘Masterclass’ at the Box Hill Arts Centre on the 10 th of April. The session will run from 6:30 – 8:00 pm and cost $40.00 for students wishing to perform and $10 for students and parents that would like to observe only. It is expected that the session will be booked out as there are only five solo performance times available with an accompanist. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn from one another, gain a new perspective to their singing and confidence presenting music. It is strongly recommended that students doing exams book in a solo performance time to have experience singing their exam repertoire.

Masterclass Presenter:Janneke Ferwerda

At the age of five Janneke began studying singing and never looked back since. Her love of music lead her to 12 years as a chorister in the Australian Girls Choir and various choral ensembles before focusing on her career as a classical soprano.  In 2014 Janneke graduated from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music (Hons) specialising in classical voice performance.  She was awarded a First Class Honours for this degree and performed in masterclasses run by international artists including Lynne Dawson and Yvonne Kenny. Janneke has sung in productions by Victorian Opera, Opera Scholars Australia, More than Opera and across stages internationally, including in Dubai where she performed for numerous corporate and social events. Alongside classical music Janneke enjoys singing musical theatre repertoire and improvisation.
